Our Story
Hi, I’m Nienke!
As a first-generation American born to a South African mother and Dutch father, having a tin full on rusks on the kitchen counter was the norm. Friends and family have been telling my mom to sell her rusks for as long as I can remember. In our house, they weren’t a snack. They were a food group. My brother and I would eat maybe four for breakfast, six as an afternoon snack, and another handful before bed.
One day, bobbing in the ocean somewhere between sunstroke and pure bliss (possibly just delusion), my mom and I made a pinky promise: we were going to start a rusk business. That’s when Loerie was born.
Baking with my mom was always one of my favorite things to do. It wasn’t just about baking; it was about time together, creativity, love, and legacy. That’s what Loerie is about too. It’s part family recipe, part lifelong dream, part passion for pure, high-quality food and part salty-ocean pinky promise. Every batch is made with the same love (and slightly chaotic energy) that filled our kitchen growing up.
So thanks for being here. We’re beyond excited to share our rusks with you—and maybe sneak into your food pyramid too.
